The award-winning production of Mary Poppins returned to its original West End home, the Prince Edward Theatre, last Autumn and continued where it left off, wowing audiences young and old, receiving standing ovations and winning nominations and awards across the board.
Set at the turn of the century, Mary Poppins tells the tale of the world’s favourite nanny who arrives at a house on Cherry Tree Lane to help two neglected children become closer to their father. The production currently stars Zizi Strallen as Mary, Charlie Stemp as Bert and with the legendary Petula Clark as the Bird Woman.
Zizi Strallen, has received a nomination for Best Actress in a Musical at this year’s forthcoming Olivier Awards whilst Charlie Stemp has received one for Best Actor in a Musical and Petula Clark for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. In addition, the production itself has been nominated for Best Musical Revival, winning the same category at the recent Whatsonstage.com Awards, voted for by the public.
The stage production of Mary Poppins, which has been seen by more than 11 million people worldwide, originally opened in the West End in December 2004, running for three years.
