With music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice it is one of the most famous musical scores around, including such songs as Circle of Life, I Just Can’t Wait To Be King, Can You Feel The Love Tonight and of course Hakuna Mutata.
Directed by Julie Taymor, this captivating reimagining of the beloved Disney animated feature won 6 Tony awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1997. Since then, the production has played in theatres all over the world, and embarked on multiple UK, US and international tours. The Lion King opened at the Lyceum Theatre in the West End in October 1999, 25 years on it remains as impressive and magical as it did all those years ago.
