The Producers

Following a sell-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory over the Winter, the first major London revival of Mel Brooks’ musical adaptation of The Producers transfers to the Garrick Theatre, this Autumn.

Starring Marc Antolin, Trevor Ashley, Raj Ghatak, Andy Nyman, Harry Morrison and Joanna Woodward, the critically acclaimed original Menier Chocolate Factory principals reprise their roles for what promises to be a wonderfully joyous night out.

The production team includes Tony Award-winning director Patrick Marber and Broadway choreographer Lorin Latarro. With music and lyrics by Mel Brooks himself and a book by him and Thomas Meehan (Annie, Hairspray, Bombay Dreams, Young Frankenstein and Elf: The Musical), The Producers is based on the classic cult film of the same name. The original Broadway production won a record twelve Tony Awards, and skewers Broadway traditions, taking no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!”

The transfer of this revival will be much anticipated by all that saw it first time round back in 2004 when it opened at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The original West End production played for 920 performances over a three-year period. Nominated for eight Olivier Awards, it won three of them, including Best New Musical.

Follow two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by fraudulently overselling interests in a Broadway musical designed to fail. Complications arise when the show is a surprise hit!

With the Menier Factory Theatre run selling out, I was unable to get us there over the Winter. Thankfully, we now have an opportunity. Hopefully, enough will want to take advantage of this surprise second chance!
