Highclere Castle

August 13, 2024

With two sell out trips before the pandemic and one already this year, I am pleased to be able to announce that we have secured an additional allocation of tickets for Highclere Castle.

One of England’s most beautiful Victorian castles set amidst 1,000 acres of spectacular parkland, demand was such that the previous trips sold out in days.

Highclere has of course become a hugely popular attraction after being used as the film set for Downton Abbey, the phenomenally successful TV drama series and two films.

Discover the fascinating history of the house, including its role as hospital to soldiers returning from the Somme in 1914. The Castle was also the seat of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, who famously discovered the Tomb of the Egyptian boy Pharaoh, Tutankhamun, in 1922 with his archaeological colleague Howard Carter. Today, Highclere houses an Egyptian Exhibition throughout the cellars of the Castle to celebrate the 5th Earl’s achievements.

Highclere are very strict as to our entry time and so, subject to the traffic on the day, we may have time to take a short comfort stop at a local garden centre where we would have the opportunity to make use of the facilities, grab a tea or coffee or even make some purchases! At around 10.15am we will re-board the coach for a short 15-minute onward journey to arrive at Highclere Castle for a timed entry at 10.30am.

Thereafter we can tour the Castle, Gardens and Egyptian Exhibition at our own pace. There are Tea Rooms with options for lunch and a Gift Shop. We will re-join the coach at 3pm to start our journey home. Subject to traffic, we would expect to be back in Dorking at about 5pm.

Offer Price £72.50
