The announcement that Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! will play at Sadler’s Wells over the Christmas and New Year period seems the prefect follow-up to our previous visits to Cinderella, Jan 2018, Swan Lake, Jan 2019, Romeo & Juliet, Aug 2019 and The Red Shoes, Jan 2020. Brought to us by the same New Adventures team and with music of course by Tchaikovsky, the Nutcracker!, reimagined for the 21st Century, is, according to The Times, “Reworked, refreshed and remarkably vibrant”.
Hailed by The Observer as “the undisputed king of dance theatre”, master storyteller Matthew Bourne and his New Adventures company have produced some of the most successful dance productions of the last two decades.
The sweetest of all Matthew Bourne’s Christmas treats returns to London for a limited season at Sadler’s Wells Theatre. It’s a Nutcracker! like no other, adored by critics and audiences alike. With family-sized helpings of Bourne’s trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy, Nutcracker! follows Clara’s bittersweet journey from a darkly comic Christmas Eve at Dr. Dross’ Orphanage, through a shimmering, ice-skating winter wonderland to the scrumptious candy kingdom of Sweetieland, influenced by the lavish Hollywood musicals of the 1930’s.
Tchaikovsky’s glorious score and Anthony Ward’s delectable sets and costumes combine with Bourne’s dazzling choreography to create a fresh and charmingly irreverent interpretation of the traditional Christmas favourite. Expect a sprinkling of delicious new surprises in this reinvented production for 2021/2.
Following the success of our Sunday outings we are sticking to the same format this time round – giving us the bonus of not rushing for the coach after work (for those that do) or dealing with the rush hour traffic. You will notice below that it is again a 2nd price seat that is included. This is only because they don’t discount the top price seats. They are very good seats however, positioned immediately behind the top price section.
