Houses of Parliament
September 2, 2021
Self-guided multimedia tour and free time in London
1000 years of history, modern day politics, stunning art and architecture.
Follow in the footsteps of the Queen at the State Opening of Parliament as she passes through the Robbing Room and Royal Gallery to take her seat on the gilded throne in the stunning Lords Chamber.
Enter the intriguing rooms of the House of Commons before standing in the famous Chamber itself, home to the Speaker’s Chair, the green benches and some lively political debates.
Commemorating the long campaign that led to some women gaining the vote in 1918, and all women in 1928, first unveiled in 2016, discover the beautiful contemporary light sculpture New Dawn and how the artist was inspired by the Suffragettes and other campaign groups.
Tours end in the medieval Westminster Hall, the place where Guy Fawkes and King Charles I were found guilty of treason and Nelson Mandela famously addressed both Houses of Parliament.
Either once our tour is complete, or indeed before it starts, you should find time to visit the Jubilee Cafe and Shop, located just off Westminster Hall.
Once our time at the Houses of Parliament is up we will re-board our coach for a transfer to the Strand where we will have a couple of hours free time to enjoy the surrounding area and perhaps grab a bite to eat. The Strand is within easy reach of Covent Garden where of course there are many things to see and plenty of options when it comes to food and drink. Having spent the afternoon enjoying the sights we will leave for home at around 4.30pm. We anticipate being back in Dorking at about 6-6.30pm, traffic depending.
